Oversharing: Helpful or Harmful to Your Photography Brand?

Engaging with your audience is crucial in today’s digital landscape. People don’t connect with perfectly polished feeds; they connect with authenticity. For photographers in Orlando, sharing moments that show your personality and creative process can make your brand stand out.

But how much is too much when it comes to sharing your story online?

Show Your Face and Your Process

For local photographers, especially in a creative hub like Orlando, your face is a powerful part of your brand. Potential clients want to know the person behind the lens. Sharing behind-the-scenes images or short videos of you at work helps clients see your professionalism and style before they ever book a session.

If you’re camera-shy, invite another Orlando photographer to capture you in action or set up your phone to record your process during shoots. This content is both authentic and highly engaging.

Share Milestones with Intention

Celebrating wins such as awards, publications, or exciting bookings helps your audience see your momentum. But balance is key. Keep things professional, avoid bragging, and don’t let your feed turn into a diary of frustrations.

It’s also powerful to share moments captured by other photographers, such as your own wedding or branding sessions, to show that you value community over competition. Even a simple selfie from a local networking event can remind clients that you’re an active part of the Orlando photography community.

Your Work Should Always Take Center Stage

If there is one thing worth oversharing, it’s your photography. Every post is a chance for a new client to fall in love with your work, whether it’s their first impression or their 50th time seeing your name.

Mix up your content formats: share full galleries, sneak peeks, reels of editing sessions, or before-and-after shots. Keep it fresh and real so your audience stays engaged and inspired.

Oversharing becomes harmful only when it shifts the focus away from your craft. By sharing authentically —showing your process, milestones, and, most importantly, your work —you build trust and connection that turn followers into clients.

Photoshoot Safety Beyond the Plus One: Staying Safe in Central Florida’s Heat, Wildlife, and Weather

As a female photographer in Central Florida, I have learned that safety on a photoshoot goes far beyond bringing a plus one. While having someone with you is important, our environment here in Florida comes with its own set of challenges. The heat can be overwhelming, the wildlife is beautiful but sometimes dangerous, and the weather can change in a heartbeat.

If you are planning an outdoor photoshoot in Central Florida, here are my top tips for staying safe, comfortable, and focused on creating gorgeous images.

1. Beat the Heat Before It Beats You

Florida’s sunshine may be dreamy for golden hour portraits, but heat exhaustion and dehydration are very real risks, especially during the summer.

  • Schedule smart: Early mornings and late afternoons are cooler and more comfortable, in addition to providing better light.
  • Hydrate ahead of time: Do not just bring water. Begin hydrating the day before your shoot!
  • Dress strategically: Light, breathable fabrics in lighter colors can help keep your core temperature down. If you’re dressing in heavier fabrics, remember to take breaks!
  • Take breaks: Step into shade whenever possible to cool down.

2. Respect Our Wildlife

From curious alligators near lakes to protective birds guarding nests, Central Florida’s natural beauty comes with a wild side.

  • Know your location: Research the area for potential wildlife hazards before you arrive.
  • Keep a safe distance: Telephoto lenses allow you to capture nature without getting too close.
  • Stay aware: Listen for rustling, bird calls, or splashes. Wildlife may be closer than you think.
  • No feeding: Feeding wildlife is unsafe and in many cases it is also illegal.

3. Plan for Unpredictable Weather

Central Florida is famous for sudden rain showers and lightning storms, especially in the afternoons.

  • Check the radar: Do not just look at the forecast. Watch the real-time radar before and during your shoot.
  • Pack for rain: Bring camera covers, quick-dry towels, and a large umbrella.
  • Know your exit plan: If you are far from your car, identify the closest safe shelter.

4. Safety Equals Better Creativity

When you prepare for the heat, respect wildlife, and stay weather-aware, you protect yourself and create the conditions for a relaxed, confident, and inspired photoshoot. As a photographer, my goal is always to help clients feel safe and comfortable so the focus stays on capturing authentic, beautiful moments.

Central Florida offers incredible backdrops, from mossy oak canopies to bright sandy beaches. With the right preparation, you can enjoy them all while keeping safety a top priority.

Take Up Space: Why Body Positivity in Photography Matters Now More Than Ever

In a world where curated perfection floods our feeds, embracing your body and taking up space unapologetically is a radical act. As a female photographer based in Orlando, I’ve seen how transformative a photo session can be when someone chooses to show up as they are and say, “This is me, and I deserve to be seen.”

Why Body Positivity Matters in Photography

Photography is more than image-making. It is storytelling, memory-keeping, and self-expression. And in 2025, we are no longer shrinking ourselves to fit a mold. We are stepping in front of the lens with confidence, compassion, and courage.

Here’s why that matters:

  • Photos influence how we see ourselves. A positive experience in front of the camera can rewrite years of self-criticism.
  • Representation heals. When people of all sizes, shapes, races, and gender expressions are photographed authentically, it shows others that taking up space is powerful, not shameful.
  • Your presence is your power. Every wrinkle, stretch mark, and curve carries your story, and that story is worth documenting.

The Shift: From Flaw-Fixing to Confidence-Capturing

As a photographer, I’ve moved away from conversations about “flattering angles” or “fixing flaws.” Instead, I focus on:

  • Comfortable posing that feels natural
  • Empowering affirmations throughout the session
  • Lighting and styling that enhance, not hide
  • Capturing joy, softness, strength, and soul

You do not need to change anything about yourself to be worthy of beautiful portraits.

Orlando Is the Perfect Backdrop for Self-Love

From sunlit parks to colorful city murals, peaceful lakefronts to private studios, Orlando offers a variety of backdrops that suit any vibe. Whether you are fierce, romantic, playful, or grounded, the right setting helps you feel at ease. When you’re comfortable in your environment, it becomes easier to show up as your fullest self.

Let your next photoshoot be a celebration of who you are in this moment, not who you think you should be.

What You’ll Walk Away With

Whether we are capturing branding portraits, personal milestones, or a “just because I deserve it” session, you’ll leave with:

  • Images that reflect your true essence
  • A confidence boost that lingers
  • A reminder that you don’t need to shrink or apologize

Ready to Take Up Space?

Let’s create something bold, beautiful, and completely you. Your body is not a problem to solve. It is a masterpiece to celebrate. If you’re in the Orlando area and ready to step in front of the camera with confidence, I’d love to work with you!

Community Highlights: Meet Laura-Grace Coley of Haifun Studio

*Originally posted here for Orlando Voyager

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura-Grace Coley.

Hi Laura-Grace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I officially started my photography journey in Dallas in 2018, though my passion began back in middle school on MySpace. In high school I often served as “historian” for clubs, using my camera to document events. I got my start with freelance commercial gigs in college, eventually discovering my love for creative portraits. Moving to Orlando in late 2019, in a short span of 4 years I worked my way from a studio photographer to assistant manager, became the resident photographer for a professional ballet company, and helped refresh Orlando’s tourism photo library. In 2024 I opened a photography studio in the Mills 50 district where I focus on capturing people and brands in their most authentic light.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest struggles I faced was moving to a new city with no established client base, just before the pandemic hit. It was a setback I couldn’t have predicted, but it pushed me to rebuild my brand from scratch. That experience taught me how crucial it is to build strong connections within your community. Without those relationships, it’s tough to grow and thrive, especially in a challenging time like that. But it also forced me to get creative, stay resilient, and ultimately, develop a deeper appreciation for the value of local networks.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Haifun Studio?
Through HyphenGPhotography I’ve had the privilege of opening Haifun Studio in the Mills 50 district of downtown Orlando, a studio that’s designed to be as accessible as it is creative. It’s more than just a studio; it’s a safe space where artists and clients alike can come to express and create freely. What truly sets my work apart is the empowering environment I strive to create both in the studio and beyond. I believe in capturing authentic moments, which means I work closely with my clients, not just in terms of communication before the session, but also providing posing guidance throughout the shoot. My goal is to help each person feel comfortable, confident, and completely themselves, allowing their true essence to shine through in every image.

I’m most proud of the culture I’ve built around my brand. I prioritize genuine connection and the celebration of individuality. Whether working with individuals or brands, my approach is always centered on authenticity and creating visual stories that resonate.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as the awareness that you can always do better. In today’s hustle culture, it’s easy to reach a goal and immediately set the next one, but I think true success comes from taking a moment to acknowledge and celebrate each milestone along the way. Recognizing that progress, even as you push forward, is empowering. It’s not just about achieving the next thing, it’s about understanding and appreciating how far you’ve come and using that momentum to fuel what’s next.
